#GivingTuesday launch

Holly Mitchell is the campaign manager for #GivingTuesday in the UK, a new national day of giving led by the Charities Aid Foundation. She has worked in the charity sector for the past four years in both policy and public affairs roles. –

Before this, she worked in the public sector in both central and local government.

There are now just three weeks to go until Britain’s first #GivingTuesday on 2 December, and as we’re closing in on the day itself excitement is really growing in the Charities Aid Foundation office.

Our partner list is rapidly approaching 500, and we’re thrilled with the sheer variety of events and plans that everyone has in store. It’s great to see how everyone is thinking about how being a part of #GivingTuesday can work for them. We’ve got Hand in Hand using the day to really make a big social media push for their wonderful ‘Food for Hope’ appeal. Then we have Shape Arts, who plan to get in touch with their neighbours to showcase their work in the local community. And then there’s Vision Africa who are asking everyone to ‘Go MAD’ for #GivingTuesday and share their smiles while showing how they’re making a difference.

We know that some charities still aren’t sure how they can best get involved, but there really isn’t any idea too big or too small. We have been really inspired by how creative small charities have got with #GivingTuesday, they are definitely leading the way in innovative plans for the day! #GivingTuesday will put a spotlight on the charitable sector and celebrate and promote the massive impact they have to those who need it most and the huge value they bring to society.

We hope that charities taking part in #GivingTuesday might raise some extra funds, might recruit more volunteers or might grow their online presence. What we are certain of is that all our partners will part of the global conversation that is happening on 2 December.

If you’re still not sure whether there’s something that your organisation can do to get involved, please take a look at our website. We’ve inspirational stories and fantastic plans for on the day from partners across Britain. We’re sure that #GivingTuesday is going to be an absolute blast, and we hope that you can join with us to help make it happen.
