Following our own financial fitness plan

Olof Williamson was a Senior Consultant at NCVO, looking at the latest thinking on funding, finance and public services. Olof has left NCVO and his posts have been retained for here for reference.

One of the things that we consistently advise charities is, to continue creating a healthy impact while being buffeted by poor economic conditions they need to be flexible and ready to adapt. And like a coach following their own fitness plan, we are adapting, through our recent merger and current reorganisation.

We have been supporting people and organisations on Sustainable Funding since 2000. And we’re sprinting into this new phase with two exciting developments.

Certificate in Sustainable Funding

The Certificate in Sustainable Funding launches later this month. It is a fantastic opportunity for a cohort of charity leaders to be guided (over 4 days of training and online and offline advice) through the process of creating their Sustainable Funding strategy. We fire the starting gun on this programme in London on Monday 22 April, and are planning to repeat it in other parts of the country in future, so watch this space.

At time of writing there are still some places remaining for April to June capital cohort (fees from £812) so apply for your place here. Or check out the full programme info Certificate in Sustainable Funding.

Sustainable Funding Consultancy

The second big development is that we’re further strengthening our consultancy. NCVO consultancy has been building up significantly over the last five years and we are now using this extra advisory “muscle” to support organisations on funding and finance. We’re aided by tools and resources developed by our high-performing funders and sponsors, including Big Lottery Fund, OCS, Charity Bank, Unity Trust Bank, UBS, CAN, Hempsons, CAF and many more.

Consultancy is a really exciting development as it offers us a new way to reach people, to make a difference to their organisations and to have a lasting impact on their work.

Because that’s what these two developments are all about – both the Certificate and our Consultancy work are aiming to create lasting change, help organisations stay financially fit and healthy.

So, like a good coach, I’m off to exercise my brain and work on our new programmes to support you and your organisation, and keep NCVO’s support on the right track too.
